About

Skyline Soaring Club is located in the northern part of Virginia, about 90 minutes outside of Washington DC. Front Royal is adjacent to the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive.  The club has around 100 members, of whom, 20 of those members are glider flight instructors. The club is carried aloft by 14 tow pilots.

The club was formed in 1991 out of the ashes of a commercial soaring organization that operated out of Warrenton Air Park (now named as the Lost Griz Aerodrome). Of all of the original aircraft that Skyline Soaring Club owned at its inception, the last glider from the Warrenton Days was the venerable SGS 1-36 "Sprite"  That Sprite was sold to another flying club at the beginning of 2024. Only four active members at Skyline Soaring Club flew with Warrenton Soaring Center in the 1980s and 1990s.
